Another entertaining show from this band. They started of with 'I'm A Rat' which isn't one of their best songs in my opinion, but there was a good crowd in and things got going straight away before Towers even got to the their newer and better songs like 'Beaujolais' and the terrific 'Air Guitar'. One unfortunate fool stage dived and as it wasn't packed enough no one caught him - it was painful to watch, but also amusing in a way to watch someone do something so stupid. Or maybe that's just me... He didn't beat Alex Kane of AntiProduct's classic when he knocked himself unconcious for two minutes doing the same thing at the Mean Fiddler though - people thought he was dead! Kings College isn't a bad venue once you have negotiated the lifts and got to the main auditorium. Strangely, although the place was quite full - there seemed to be a lot more people in the back half of the room rather than crowding to the front as is normal. Maybe the band's infamous reputation made people scared to get too close? Still, it made it easy to get near enough to the front to get a decent view - and Towers are a band you really need to watch to get the best out of the live show - as well as to keep an eye out for any airborne missiles that might head in your direction. On the other hand, all this made it more of a problem getting to the bar as that's where the crowd was at it's highest density - I missed the best part of three songs towards the end of the set as I tried to get a couple of pints in and then had more problems when the barmaid was trying to pour the drinks. As usual, the show was plenty of fun - even more so now the band have some much stronger newer material. A music journalist friend told me he had just got a copy of the forthcoming album and it was pretty good - I'm certainly looking forward to getting it next month. Donny (or Danny if you read the Star ) the frontman is always amusing to watch as he takes the piss out everything and arses around onstage. He likes to clamber about over anything he can climb up - this time he scaled the P.A. speaker stack - which didn't go down very well with security, although to be fair the speaker stack did look a bit wobbley and liable to fall apart. I aways enjoy Towers Of London shows - they are one of those bands who always seem to go all out to give the audience a good memorable ROCK show - and that's the sort of band I love. It was one of those fun gigs where I seemed to have a grin plastered on my face throughout - and I like that. A lot. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
