I arrived early enough to catch most of the set from Jakk Flash - they were quite interesting. The singer/guitarist had a great voice, and the lead guitarist was obviously a big Joe Perry fan having a fluid style not unlike the Aerosmith axeman. There was certainly an Aerosmith influence in some of the songs too, as well as some G'N'R, Led Zep and AC/DC. The G'N'R flavour was underlined when they threw in a cover of 'Paradise City' along with a Free cover they played earlier. Although the frontman and lead guitarist were good, the rhythm section looked like they were in the wrong band - adding to the fact that the band didn't seem that tight and would benefit from more rehearsals... Vamps 'N' Gypsies were excellent as usual and took advantage of their 'headline' status to play for nearly and hour while debuting some new songs. I've seen this band so many times recently I'm running out of things to say about them, but they were very entertaining once again. I think all band members managed to stay upright thoughout the set this time, although Flash Danny did once again manage to damage his guitar and had to change to a spare mid-set. The venue was somewhat less than full on this Monday night in Camden, not helped by world cup football on TV and the fact that Tattooed Millionaires were playing down the road at the Purple Turtle - someone who was there later informed me they weren't very good. However, G-Lounge was the venue for their aftershow and by around 11.30 familiar faces began to roll in from the Purple Turtle. Maybe they should have come to see Vamps 'N' Gypsies instead - I'm glad I did. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
