I started the evening off with a trip to Islington to see Pete Daval's new band the Telematics at the Hope & Anchor.  There were a few technical problems during the first song and Pete had to change guitars - that'll teach him not to use a Fender and keep the Gibson for spare! The first song reminded me strongly of the Stranglers - which is no bad thing. The rest of the set was quite varied, from indie pop, to a queiter song or two, and some more punk rock edged tunes as well. Good stuff - I think this is Pete's best band so far.
The remaining two bands and the Hope & Anchor didn't look too promising, so I jumped on the tube and managed to catch the second set of another friend's band at the Cat & Lantern back in Barnet. Tim Burbridge was on good form with his band Shweet Azz and the pub was packed. It was probably the best performance I've seen so far from this band.
