Went to see the Transmitters (formerly 24hrLove) at the Rhythm Factory in London's grimy east end. In the best traditions of underground rock 'n' roll the venue is a bit of a toilet, and like the Underworld in Camden has an inconvieniently placed pillar. That said, the layout of the venue is actually quite good - apart from the fact that if you want draught rather than bottled beer you have to go to the front bar. Do I seem obsessed with beer? Although the turnout was poor on this wet winter night in this less well known venue (do London people not think it is 'cool' to attend gigs unless they are in Camden or the west end?) the band put on an energetic performance with driving rhythm guitar from Matt. Some new songs were aired - '30 Minutes' fortunately not being that long as the band wouldn't have had time to play anything else, and 'Suck This' stood out in particular. Older song 'Dirty Sister' seemed better live than on CD with some neat bass playing from Aaron that I hadn't noticed on the recorded version. Vocalist Sarah seemed to sound better live than in the studio as well - but still swearing like a trooper! A good evening out at a venue I could grow to like, and well worth the measly £3 admission. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
