I don't know who the band were playing as I arrived, but I thought they were pretty good - sort of 60's inspired blues rock and reminded me of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. They were excellent players, if maybe a little self indulgent. They ran way over time, although I don't know if this was their fault or not - maybe the whole bill was running late, or maybe they just played for longer than they were supposed to? The venue staff dropped hints that it was time for them to stop by cutting some of the stage lights - when this was ignored they cutall the stage lights - and still the band played on... Bands who do this are skating on thin ice - I know one band who were banned for life from the Underworld for playing on when they had been told to stop... This was only Lullaby Project's third gig, but they already seem to have a growing following. I think Alex is pretty at home at the Water Rats as she has played this venue many times with her previous band - and certainly some of the Suffrajets fans present tonight must have been at some of her previous shows here too. Once again, the band but on an entertaining and energy packed show filled with good tunes - fans of Nirvana would be likely to enjoy this band's catchy songs. Alex hurls herself off the stage and into the crowd towards the end of the set - a one woman whirling moshpit dervish! Her long suffering guitar gets hurled to the ground as the show ends - those old Burns guitars must have been very solidly put together! |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
