25/1/2007 Honeykill @ the Pleasure Unit

This venue is quite a contrast to Honeykill's gig at the very plush Bullet Bar a few days ago. The Pleasure Unit in Bethnal Green is a real rock 'n' roll toilet - although not quite the shabbiest venue in the East End - I think that dubious honour goes to the Spread Eagle in Shoreditch. Oddly enough, a night of live music in the Pleasure Unit is more expensive than the luxious surroundings of Bullet Bar in Kentish town - two quid more on the door for the same number of bands, plus more expensive drinks and no draught beer.  It was also the coldest venue I've been in for a long time - mid January and the heating isn't even on. To be honest there isn't much about this establishment that makes you want to go back there.

The sound isn't as good as Honeykill's gig a few days ago either - the PA being a bit shabby like the venue, but I've heard worse.

The band's performance seemed good though and the crowd liked them. Well I say 'crowd', but actually there weren't that many people present - unlike the last time Honeykill played this venue.

Still quite an enjoyable night though in spite of the grubby surroundings, and worth the trip into the east end on a cold Thursday night.
PS: This venue has since closed.
