A low turnout at Lark In The Park tonight - once again proving that football is the enemy of rock 'n' roll as people preferred to watch the Man United match than go and see some decent live bands.  Tonight being the Tuesday after the long Easter Bank Holiday weekend didn't help either.

I missed the first couple of bands and Gundogs started their set shortly after I arrived. I'd never seen them before, but was impressed by their three part vocal attack and some decent tunes.

JOANovARC were excellent as usual, but I think even they were having a hard time tonight as there were so few people present and this band really thrive on having an audience to bounce off. They aired a couple of new songs to keep things fresh - that's one of the things which keeps me coming back to see them again and again, as apart from the sheer power and quality of their performances and songs they are always changing the set around and even changing parts of the songs themselves.

Last band were The Skies - another band who were new to me. They had a pretty sharp and lively rock sound to accompany a high standard of musicianship. A little bit of blues and soul mixed in with the rock 'n' roll, plus some good tunes and a slightly funky bass that makes them sound a little different.

Certainly worth making a trip to Islington on a Tuesday night to check these three bands out - and good value for money at £7 for five bands altogether. It's a shame people would rather stay in and watch TV - the same people who are always moaning there are no good new bands around these days...
