My first visit to the Barfly in a while: I'm there to see JOANovARC, but arrive when Lovers Electric are playing, they are basically a pop group with a girl singer. There's nothing wrong with them, but it's not exactly rock 'n' roll and they don't float my boat at all... JOANovARC haven't drawn as big a crowd as usual as this is a short notice support slot, but there are a few familiar faces there. They turn in an excellent performance as usual, but I expect it would have been better if they had a bigger crowd to feed off. That said, the room fills up noticably during their set and the latecomers certainly seem to appreciate the girl's set. I never get tired of seeing JOANovARC as their set is constantly evolving - there is almost nothing left in the current set that they were playing two years ago. There is a new CD available on the band's merch stand and the three songs on it are featured in the set tonight. The CD is rather good! The headline band tonight is The Rain - another indie/pop outfit that fail to make any impression on me. Again, there is nothing actually wrong with them - they are just totally uninteresting. After two or three songs I head for home as they are doing nothing for me whatsoever. One thing struck me as a bit odd tonight: I went to a couple of gigs over the weekend and everyone was dressed up for Haloween a few nights early - loads of zombie make-up, ect. Tonight actually is Haloween, but no one has bothered... |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
