It's not that often there's a good band playing in the local pubs these days, but this Saturday there was a new band who I knew would be worth checking out. I knew they would be good as I've known the members of the band for ages, and seen them all play many times over the last few years in different bands. This band called either Trionix or Pheonix 3 (I think the name might have changed between me first hearing about the gig and the posters being printed) consists of the rhythm section from popular act the Playgirls - Sophie on bass and Lydie on drums, plus well known local musician Dave Cox on guitar. There was a respectable crowd in the Bell & Buck to see them and they were well entertained with a set of classic rock standards, with some punk and new wave classics thrown in as well. Sophie took lead vocals on most of the songs, with Lydie singing a few as well. Sophie singing 'Highway To Hell' was a particular highlight.  They are all highly experienced musicians, and it certainly shows - they look like they are really enjoying themselves as well - not just doing it for the money like some bands so obviously do. This all made for a good atmosphere in the pub - which made it nice to take advantage of the late bar as well.  It makes a change from getting to tube to Camden or the West End all the time to see some decent live music - I hope the band are back at this pub before too long.
PS: This pub has since closed.
