3/2/2007 Urban Voodoo Machine @ Spitz

Third gig in three nights and I'm off to Spitalfields to see the Urban Voodoo Machine at Spitz. It's an odd venue, with the room the bands play in situated at the top of several flights of stairs. If you like your beer to be brown rather than looking like piss then there isn't much selection, although large bottles of Old Speckled Hen made an agreeable substitute for Newcastle Brown and weren't too outrageously priced. It took ages to get served once the place had filled up though.

There weren't many people there when I arrived, but it was quite full by the time Urban Voodoo Machine ambled onto the stage. This was the third time I've seen the band, and once again they were very entertaining with their unusual blend of sleazy blues, and 50's style rock 'n' roll.

A surprise guest performer in the band tonight was ex-Yo-Yo's and current Loyalties man Tom Spencer - although he was more in the guise of his other band Fastlane Roogalator on this occasion.

The final act was Sandy Dillon - a singer/songwriter type of woman billed (rather inaccurately I thought) as a 'female Tom Waits'. Possibly slightly mad.

Afterwards we headed to Soho for drinks at Garlic & Shots, before heading to Decadence - which was followed at around four in the morning by more missadventures for me on the way home - see my previous 'Thrown off the bus!' blog...

Quite a busy and eventful night out!
