25/7/2008 - Part 1. Vamps 'N' Gypsies & Tyla acoustic @ Bar Monsta

Subject25th July, Part 1: Vamps ’N’ Gypsies & Tyla acoustic @ Bar Monsta
PostedDate7/25/2008

Another 2 gigs in one night challenge for me - traveling light in the summer heat so only phone pictures I'm afraid. I start off at Camden's Bar Monsta and manage to catch the last part of Vamps 'N' Gypsies first ever acoustic set.

It has to be said the band looked somewhat ill at ease in this setting. They have a load of great songs, but they just didn't seem at home on this occasion even though they have played this venue many times. They didn't seem to enjoy it very much - apart from Stu, who had probably had more to drink than the others.  It probably also helped that he has played a couple of solo acoustic shows at this venue as well.

The headline act at Bar Monsta was Dogs D'Amour frontman Tyla. This man is certainly not short of good songs and fits easily into the intimate acoustic environment.

He played 'How Come It Never Rains' and 'Ballad Of Jack' and just those two songs were enough to keep me happy. He played plenty more of his trademark black poetic ballads, then he brought on a guest - Ex-Black Halos, Amen, Yo-Yo's and current Loyalties man Rich Jones.

The show finishes fairly early, which means I still have time to get to another gig...
PS: This venue was pretty cool for a couple of years, but is best avoided now it is known as 'Camden Rock'.
