17/9/2008 - Part 2. Disarm @ Metro

After Imperial Vipers and The Rev have rocked the joint an all girl band take to the stage. The girl who is fronting the band needs some roadie looking type to tune her Les Paul for her onstage before they start their set - not an encouraging start.  The well worn guitar looks older than she is so maybe it's borrowed? The other guitarist takes vocal duties for some of the songs, and makes a reasonable job of it.

The name of the band escapes me - something like 'Out Of The Embers' I think? I noticed that one of their guitar cases had 'The Tommys' (all girl punk/pop band who haven't been heard from recently)  painted on it, so maybe that a clue as to their background?

It probably sounds highly patronising to say they sound like they look, but they do. As regular readers will know, I have nothing against girl bands - quite the opposite. This one just isn't that good. I suspect this is one of their first gigs though, so maybe if I bump into them again in the future they will be better. To be fair, they aren't that bad, but they seem a little tame compared to the other bands on the bill tonight.

I couldn't help noticing the bass player was sporting a nice looking Gibson though - haven't seen that model before.

Disarm are anything but tame, and tonight they continue on their mission to rip us southern softies a new arsehole!

This band have a real 'take no prisoners' approach and play every show as if it could be their last!

The Mexborough Marauders seem to be really enjoying playing to a full club in London's West End.

They even manage to achieve something which few unknown bands from out of town manage to do - they get the people down at the front dancing!

I've got to hand it to these Northern lads - they always throw everything they've got into every show - and maybe all their hard work is now beginning to pay off.
This venue no longer exists - it was demolished (along with several others) to make way for London's 'Crossrail' project.
