Subject | 20th March - Part 2: Das Pleasures @ the Purple Turtle |

This is a headline band most people are going to love, or absolutely hate! This is Glam Rock to it’s extreme - it really doesn’t get more OTT than this. The thing is, unlike most bands of this genre - these guys can really play. In fact, back in their native Germany some of them play in jazz bands - and you don’t do that unless you are a bloody good musician. I’ve seen this lot before, and in spite of my initial scepticism I was really impressed as soon as I heard them actually start playing. To be honest, I don’t think they are quite as good at the Purple Turtle tonight - but they are still highly entertaining. The Germans are not known for their sense of humour, but there is one buried in there if you look deep enough. So are they taking the piss like The Darkness did? I think they are well aware of how ridiculous the whole thing is - and they absolutely glory in it! (and they have an audience participation song called ’Glory Hole’!) They know that most people want to be entertained at a rock show, and they go all out to do exactly that. The Pleasures neither look nor sound like The Darkness, but one thing they have in common is they believe that rock music should be fun! A Pleasures show really is a show - it’s a celebration of all that is gloriously OTT in rock ’n’ roll. One thing which makes them stand out is that unlike virtually everyone else in the Glam genre, they don’t take themselves too seriously and are obviously having fun doing what they do. Just allow yourself to be swept along by their enthusiasm and you’ll soon be having fun too. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
