Back to Camden yet again and one one of my favourite venues. The Purple Turtle isn't that busy considering it's a Saturday night but none of the bands are familiar names. I saw Lust 'n' Love recently supporting Men & Gods at the Bull & Gate, and tonight is apparently only the second gig. Considering that, they aren't bad and there is a definite improvement since their last performance.

That said, there isn't much sign of stage presence - but to be fair you can't expect too much charisma or star quality from a band's second ever gig. Maybe that's not what they are about anyway and they just want to get out and play?

Lust 'n' Love can certainly play well enough, but their music is very generic sounding - 'Hey You' has an intro riff far to similar to a certain well known Darkness song that G'N'R appeared to 'borrow' for 'Chinese Democracy', but it also makes you want to sing "I don't need no doctor" like Stevie Marriot or Blackie Lawless.   Then when the vocals come in it sounds a lot like Saxon's more recent 'Live To Rock' (which can currently be found on my player). Then another song in their set reminds me of Blondie's 'Call Me' - but at least all the songs I'm reminded of are good ones! It will be interesting to see this band in a year's time...
