20/3/2010 Eureka Machines @ the Pure Rawk Awards 2010

SubjectEureka Machines @ the Pure Rawk Awards 2010
PostedDate3/20/2010

I was really looking forward to the Pure Rawk Awards, but unfortunately having to still be dealing with the various chaos involved with my recent move meant I couldn't get there early enough to see most the bands.

I arrived at the Purple Turtle in time to see The Mercy House.

I'd heard some people recommending them so was looking forward to checking them out. However, they struck me as a very generic metal band.

They are excellent musicians without a doubt, but their performance struck me as an excercise in technical mastery over any actual songs

The Pure Rawk Awards is always a fun night, as are Pure Rawk promotions generally, and it's good to see plenty of people at the Purple Turtle.

The actual awards themselves went as follows:

Label of the Year - Rocksector Records
Pin-Up of the Year - Foxy Deville
Stunt of the Year - Acey Slade's Burlesque Beauties & Leg Show Revue Tour
Video of the Year - Evil Scarecrow: 'Robototron'
Local Venue of the Year - Purple Turtle (London)
Promoter of the Year - Riot Promotions
EP/ Single of the Year - The Glitterati: 'Fight, Fight, Fight'
Album of the Year - Sorry and the Sinatras: 'Highball Roller'
Axe Hero of the Year - Dave 'The Sleaze' Leese (Sworn To Oath)
Frontperson of the Year - Christ Catalyst (Eureka Machines)
New Band of the Year - The Rocket Dolls
New Breed Award - Sworn To Oath
Band of the Year - Eureka Machines

The headline act drew the biggest crowd, and deservingly so - not only winning the 'Frontperson of the Year' award but also 'Band of the Year'.

Anyone who has ever seen Eureka Machines will know why these awards were so richly deserved.

This a a band like no other you have ever seen. Their debut album is pretty good, but you have to see them live to see them at their best.

Not only is the songwriting and musicianship of a high standard, but Eureka Machines are also highly entertaining as a live act - not just visually, but also the banter from frontman Chris. Even the drummer is great to watch!

If you go and see this band and don't enjoy their performance then I suggest you check your pulse.
