I find myself back in (Nigel) Tufnell Park again at the Boston Arms Music Room. This seems to be becoming a more regular North London haunt of mine (along with Nambucca) since the closure of The Gaff earlier this year. More often than not these days, the bands I actually want to see are popping up at these venues instead of the supposedly 'cool' places in Camden. This venue gives much better value for money as far as door and bar prices go compared to Camden or the West End.

Tonight I'm here to see The Loyalties.

Rising from the ashes of the Yo-Yo's, who rose from the ashes of the original Yo-Yo's, this band released their debut album (not surprisingly sounding a lot like the Yo-Yo's) and promptly vanished.

A year ago it looked like we'd lost this band. Then they re-appeared for a well received one-off show at The Gaff. Now they are back again - and this time they are serious. Maybe. One thing is for sure - this isn't another 'one-off' gig. They are even recording a second album.

The band are on good form as they pedal their brand of punk 'n' roll to the crowd. New songs are in the pipeline, but The Loyalties finish their set tonight with a crowd pleaser from the past in the form of the Yo-Yo's 'Stockholm Sick Blues'.

Expect to hear more from The Loyalties soon - they are playing at the 12 Bar Club on September 30th.  See you there.
