Wednesday night finds me down in the west end at the former Fly, now known as The Bowery. The name of the venue is all that's changed really - still no real ales and the bloke behind the downstairs bar seems reluctant to serve you a full pint - his body language suggests he's pissed off if you dare ask him to top it up. So I'm obviously not here for the beer - in fact I'm here to see The Cut Outs. This former all girl band now have a male drummer and a load of new songs - not that there was anything wrong with the old songs. Guitarist Stevie is looking more and more like Joan Jet these days, but is a better singer. Bassist Jess is a pretty good singer as well, and the girls have good stage presence. If you have to pigeonhole the songs I guess you'd call 'em pop/punk. They are catchy and lively, but this band definitely put their own twist on things and don't really sound like anyone else. It's good to see them starting to get out playing more regularly again, and soon they'll have a new EP to promote as well. This lot are worth catching if you get the chance. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
