It was looking for a while that this might be my last visit to the legendary 100 Club. However, it now appears that a way has been found to keep the place going. This is excellent news and now hopefully this important part of London's punk and rock 'n' roll heritage will remain open next year and beyond... Talking of London's punk heritage, the band I'm here to see tonight has strong links to that as it contains members of The Damned, Chelsea, and Cock Sparrer. In spite of the band's lineup, Bermondsey Joyriders are more of a rock 'n' roll band than a punk outfit. Proper rock 'n' roll band they maybe, but frontman Garry Lammin still has plenty of punk attitude, and his vocal delivery plus the songs lyrical content reflect this. The old punk attitude might still be there, but unlike some bands who just use being 'punk' as an excuse for not being very good Bermondsey Joyriders are actually a very good rock 'n' roll band with Gary's slide guitar giving the band a very distinctive sound of their own. Check 'em out if you get the chance. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
