The Gaff is usually one of my regular haunts, but this is the first time I've
been here since it closed for a 'refurb' a couple of months ago.
To be honest, I can't really see any difference apart from a few tatty
posters being removed.  I was thinking at least they would throw a bit
more black paint on the walls, but the old peeling paint is still there. I also
thought they would at least have to fix or replace the long broken hand
drier in the gents, but they haven't even done that.
I think they have cleaned the toilets, but you don't have to close for a
whole weekend to do that...

The simple reason I haven't been to this venue recently is 'cos there just
haven't been any bands booked that I was interested in seeing - apart from
Vice Squad - which clashed with the Quireboys, and Zombina & The
Skeletones - which clashed with a couple of other things. It's a bit of a
quiet week before Christmas, so I've braved the ice and snow to see
Catfight.

It's the first time I've seen this London based all girl outfit.

They certainly aren't bad, and the vocals are better than usually heard in
punk and grunge influenced bands like this. Worth checking out - if you
want to hear what they actually sound like then have a listen on their
MySpace page - about the only thing MySpace is good for these days.

None of their songs really knock me out to be honest, but the Wells Banana
Beer from the bar is going down very nicely so I'm happy enough - although
it runs out later and I move onto Waggle Dance honey brew which is an
acceptable substitute.
A decent cheap midweek night out at probably the best value for money
rock venue in London.

PS: This venue closed in early 2011.
