Back at The Gaff again - a place that's becoming my home from home. This is a proper old school rock & roll night in honour of what would have been Elvis's 75th Birthday. The first band I see is Mini Skirt Blues. Guess what? None of them are wearing min-skirts, or are girls - and they don't play the blues either. I guess they are more punk/psychobilly, but those sort of bands tend to look and sound very generic to me and don't hold my attention at all. The next band is highly appropriate for the occasion. The ever expanding Viva Las Vegas play a set of all Elvis covers in a punk 'n' roll style. The great thing about this is that everybody in the place knows all the songs. Viva Las Vegasa are a lot of fun! Final act of the night is Vince Ray and The Boneshakers. This is very traditional 50's style rock 'n' roll and well performed by people who obviously love the music. It's good stuff! If you have been to this venue or the 12 Bar Club or Intrepid Fox in the past you are probably familiar with Vince Ray's work - much of it can be seen either painted onto the decor or in the form of posters - Vince is a prolific artist as well as a musician. It's a good night at what is probably the best value for money rock venue in London at the moment. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
