Friday night finds me heading up west for a surprisingly cheap night out. I'm going to The Spice of Life to see The Cut Outs. Not only is the ale a reasonable (for the West End) £3.60 a pint, but it's also FREE to get into the downstairs bar to see the bands - three of them are playing tonight but I only get to see The Cut Outs.

This lot are always good fun with their punky attitude and catchy tunes - made all the better by the band's obvious love of playing live. The playing is tight with some infectious grooves.

The sound in this small bar is surprisingly good considering the place isn't a dedicated music venue. The Cut Outs are building a bit of a following, and along with casual 'walk-ins' the bands's fans create a good atmosphere with their brand of pop/rock. The band seem to go down pretty well with all the randoms in the audience as well as their own fans - always a good sign.

With a selection of real ales and decent staff this is actually a more enjoyable place to visit than many of the capital's 'proper' music venues. The Cut Outs are the final band of the night, and after they finish I still have plenty of time to drop into the Intrepid Fox for a drink on the way home - certainly a worthwhile night out.
