Saturday night finds me at the 100 Club - the event is called Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!. It's a bit quiet at first, but the place soon fills up after the opening acoustic female singer/songwriter. The following act seems to cause rather a stir! I think most of tonight's crowd is here to see upcoming punk/pop starlet Kiria For some reason, an unusually large percentage of the crowd seems to consist of middle aged men! Long time readers of my blog may recognise Kiria's bass player Luita Lin as she used to play rhythm guitar in JOANovARC. One of the 'Pink Punk' pop Princess's songs is called 'Jelly Baby' - cue the appearance of a giant dancing Jelly Baby! This was rather popular with the girls in the crowd and some of them started dancing with him! Kiria will also be playing at the Pure Rawk Awards along with Stereo Juggernaut next month - and possibly a dancing Jelly Baby? Last band of the night is The Priscillas. It's several years since I last saw this London all girl outfit, and half the band has changed since then - and they now have a male drummer. This band are good fun, and I think they are better than when I last saw them. Jenny Drag is a great frontwoman with real stage presence. The band have some catchy pop/punk songs with a strong retro slant, but it's their singer who you'll remember the most. The show is all over around 10.30 - which is obviously far to early to go home on a Saturday night! The bar stays open, but as neither of the real ale pumps are in use tonight there isn't much incentive for me to hang around, so I head off down Oxford Street in the direction of the Intrepid Fox, where as usual I bump into a few people I know - some of whom were at the 100 Club earlier. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
