This was a fun and interesting night. Esquires in Bedford must be one of the hardest venues to find if you drive there though - took me ages! The lineup for the band was different to the usual in a couple of ways - the lovely Nina is having to take some time out but will be back with the band later this year - so there were only two girls on vocals. Also, usual drummer Martin 'Magic' Johnson was unable to make this show so Mike Ellis of Binge Drinking filled in for this gig. Due to the absence of Nina, the rest of the band pulled out all the stops for this show - there were bass, drum, and guitar solos as each member of the band was introduced, plus some 'guest' vocalists from a couple of the support bands on the last song 'One More Drink For The Road'. The guest singers were pretty good actually, although they seemed reluctant to leave the stage when they had finished their bit and lead singer Jade had to almost physically chuck them off! Guitarist 'Static' grabbed a handy beer glass and played some great slide guitar! Bassist Jason seemed even more excited to be on stage than usual - partly because the date was 6/6/6, and mainly because Steve Harris from Iron Maiden happened to be watching him play! Coincidence? Was it my imagination, or was the bass particularly loud at this gig? All in all, quite different to a normal Planet Of Women show but none the worse for it. Certainly well worth the 100 mile or so round trip. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
