Paid my first visit to the Borderline for a while and saw Planet Of Women play at Alan McGee's 'The Queen Is Dead' club. The band didn't take to the stage until after midnight so we had the chance for a few beers first. They played a good tight set as usual with a couple of newer songs thrown in. The stage at the Borderline is quite a reasonable size, but it was barely big enough to contain the six members of this band - especially their bassist who almost needs a whole stage to himself as he leaps about. Nice use of feedback and a handy beer bottle for some neat slide playing from the guitarist too - it's not just all about the girls in the band, although it's hard to keep your eyes off them. The band finished with newish song 'One More For The Road' with it's AC/DC style guitar into and singalong chorus - this song is a real showstopper and a great one to go out on. The club went on with what at first I thought was going to be an indie theme, but things picked up when the Ramones 'Blitzkrieg Bop' got played, along with some other punk classics so quite a good mix of music overall. I ended up get fairly wasted as the night went on, but not as bad as my last visit to the Borderline. Although the club went on til three in the morning the staff were pretty quick to kick us all out after that time. We walked past Crobar which is virtually next door as we left and it still looked pretty full, although the bar would have shut by then so there was no point going in. One night bus later and I staggered in through the front door and hit the sack just before five in the morning. Getting home from a night out in broad daylight - summer must be here again... |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
