Thursday night finds me in Islington to see Warrior Soul on their 'Stiff Middle Finger' tour. Continuing my Boycott of overpriced Academy venue bars I had for the adjacent Wetherspoons for a couple of liveners before the gig - half the price and twice as good as any pint available in the venue.
Having found out Warrior Soul's stage time beforehand I'm in the venue with minutes to spare, and the band take to the stage on time to the exact minute - why can't this happen more often at other shows? Professionals are obviously at work here.
The band's frontman Kory Clarke remains one of the most charismatic characters to stalk a stage. With his lion-like mane and a trademark roar of a voice to match he is a commanding stage presence. Kory has once again managed to put a good band together for this tour and the forthcoming album - when you go to a Warrior Soul show you know you are going to get value for money. We get a few new songs, and also a bunch of the usual crowd pleasers like 'The Drug', 'Punk And Disorderly', 'Fuck The Pigs', and 'The Wasteland' - no one is going to go home disappointed from this gig! It's a high powered set of politically charged anti-establishment anthems brimming with punk attitude - Kory leaves you in no doubt whatsoever than he means it. He is the real deal and you'd better believe it. All too soon the show is over - probably over an hour actually but who's counting? The aftershow is at Nambucca, but that's miles away and not particularly easy to get to/home from late at night, as well as now having really expensive bar prices - so I decide to give it a miss and have my own aftershow over at the Wetherpoons a few yards away instead. This didn't seem like such a great idea the next morning but at least my journey home was much quicker and easier. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
