Back to the Purple Turtle for another night of rock 'n' roll. Things kick off in fine style with The Derellas. It's the second time I've seen this lot recently - a thoroughly enjoyable punk 'n' roll assault! The Derellas really go for it - as they have done every time I've seen them. They do a great job of warming the crowd up for what it to follow. Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers fans are suddenly really spoilt in old London Town - not only did we have ex-Heartbreakers bass player Billy Rath playing shows very recently (see earlier blog) but now we have the band's 2nd guitarist Walter Lure playing as well. Needless to say, most of tonight's setlist comes straight from the Heartbreakers classic 'L.A.M.F.' album, but there are also a few songs from other parts of Walter's career as well - and it's all good stuff along much the same lines. There is also the odd special guest - like Paul Ronney Angel from The Urban Voodoo Machine on mouth harp as well. It's the second time I've seen him do this recently as he popped up to guest with the Bermondsey Joyriders at the 100 Club too, as well as playing a recent show there with his own band. It's looks like there may be another guest in the house as well - I spot Billy Rath in the crowd! Sure enough, he ends up on stage and plays a couple of Heartbreakers song with Walter. It's good to see the only two surviving members of that band back on stage together at last. It has to be said that Walter's show is noticably better than Billy's recent one though, even though much of the setlist is the same. Walter has much tighter and better rehearsed band. They are actually a UK band in their own right that he's picked up to back him for this short tour, and they do a very good job - much more professional and together - no one in this band seems to have any 'health' (or otherwise) 'issues'. Another good night out in Camden and a thoroughly enjoyable set from Walter Lure & Co. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
