It's back to The Gaff yet again tonight. Not too bad a turnout for a Tuesday night, and they seem to have actually started cleaning the gents toilet again, although even after all these months no effort seems to have been made to replace the hand drier. First band on are Ferocity Lights. It's good to see this band gigging a bit more regularly these days. Girls with guitars are always cool too. They sound good tonight, and I think are all the better for playing more often. And also because Charlie isn't wearing shorts tonight! Their alt/grunge influenced style is driven along by James the drummer who is more usually seen pounding the skins for Dead Identities. There is also a more potentially commercial edge to Ferocity Lights sound, driven home by some catchy and above average tunes - if you manage to catch this band live they may well give you a free CD of their album as well. Next up is the harder rocking local band Cavilry. This is another band with a bunch of good tunes - particularly their 'More Manics than the Manics' song 'Miss Connection' - a single if ever I heard one! I mean early 'Generation Terrorists' Manic Street Preachers by the way - when they still used to ROCK. This lot play it like they mean it - hard and heavy, with a Therapy? Influence and Wildhearts style riffing. If their newer songs like 'Miss Connection' are anything to go by, their second album could be a cracker! None of us are keen on the last band, and we have also drunk the bar dry of bottled ales - didn't they know we were coming?!! Therefore, there is nothing for it but to head over the road to Big Red for some Newcastle Brown and toilets with working hand driers. A good night out for a Tuesday - losers who won't go out on a 'school night' miss out on loads of great bands! |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
