It's not often I go to the Barfly these days. A few years ago I seemed to be there all the time, but in those days they used to book a lot of rock bands - now it's almost exclusively an indie hangout. This is a shame as it's not a bad little venue. Oddly enough, the band I'm here to see tonight are actually more of an indie band anyway. Since I first saw The Transmitters they have had three singers, and there are now only two band members remaining form the original five I saw at the Dublin Castle. There has also been a name change for the band and virtually a whole new set of songs since I first saw them. Their current singer Roxi is definitely the best at fronting a band and has good stage presence as well as being a decent singer. There is plenty of energy on stage with guitarist Matt having a dynamic tension that reminds me of Pete Townsend although their sounds and styles are totally different. Along with Matt, bassist Aaron is the only other original member and he does a good job holding things together with his cool and relaxed but still dynamic vibe. Add them all together and you have a band that stands apart from any other on the indie scene - now they need to get out gigging more regularly at decent venues like this to get noticed. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
