2/7/2010 Dead Identities, Zen Motel & Ferocity Lights @ the 12 Bar Club

SubjectDead Identities, Zen Motel & Ferocity Lights @ the 12 Bar Club
PostedDate7/2/2010

This was a good night at the 12 Bar Club. This small venue has a well stocked
bar with a good variety of quality bottled ales - many better known venues
could learn a lot from this place.  It's one of the London Callin' club nights,
and also the album launch party for the new album from Dead Identities.

The first band I catch is Ferocity Lights. Unfortunately their guitarist Marilyn
has to play the gig sitting down due to having broken some ribs, but Charlie
belts out the lead vocals effectively.

Their brand of grunge tinged and Pixies/Breeders influenced alt-rock is
catchy - and they are harding out free copies of their recent album 'Window
Seat To Hell' which is worth picking up if you get the chance.

Dead Identities continue to refine their brand of tuneful pop/punk, and their
new album 'Bad Cats And Heart Attacks' is a definite step forward for the
band - it also has some very cool Vince Ray artwork.

This band also get better and better live - they always play with punk passion behind their catchy tunes.

The excellent Zen Motel don't go on til around midnight, but are worth missing the last tube for - I always enjoy their shows.

Some cracking songs and very entertaining, although I am missing some of the older songs like 'Black Tail' and 'Devil Song'.

I really had wanted to get away in time to catch the last tube as I wanted to be up earlier than normal to catch all the bands at the East Barnet Festival on Saturday. Oh well - night bus followed by a 25 minute walk...
