10/6/2010 Pussycat and the Dirty Johnsons @ the Cross Kings

A change from the 'usual' venues tonight - the Cross Kings, maybe better known
to some of you as the old Backpackers pub near Kings Cross station. It's more of
an indie hangout these days. The bar service on arrival left a bit to be desired,
but at least they serve real ales.  Unfortunately, as is often the case in the
very few music venues where you can get real ales, one of them is 'off' (the
'Summer Warmer' one I really wanted to try) and the remaining one (Bombardier)
isn't very good.  And the barman aren't very good at giving you a full pint either.
These things aren't rocket science surely?

However, at least the live music is good!  I'm here to see Pussycat and the Dirty Johnsons

This is the third time I've seen this band, and this show is probably the best yet.

Imagine a rockabilly band fronted by a cross between Catwoman and Tank Girl and you're pretty much in the right ballpark.

This girl has star quality and makes this band's set highly entertaining.

The Dirty Johnsons themselves are a good rock 'n' roll band driven by an excellent drummer, and their songs aren't too shabby either!

They aren't London based, which is probably why not many people have heard of them - yet. They do make the effort to travel up from Basingstoke regularly to play in the smoke though, so they obviously aren't afraid of putting the work in, and you should get quite a few chances to see them in London this year - and I suggest you do 'cos they are a lot of fun!
