There is a respectable crowd at the Barfly for this gig. It’s been quite a while since Eyelash played a London show, and there have been some changes in the band since then...
" It’s Eyelash Jim, but not as we know it."
The main change is the new bass player Marina - some of you will have seen her playing previously in AntiProduct and Shush. There are are couple of other extra additions to the band for this gig as well - an extra singer in the form of Katie, and also a new keyboard player filling out the sound on a few songs. All these things are good. However, lead singer Fe is still the centre of attention and is a real bundle of energy! It’s only the third time I’ve seen this band, but it’s the most exciting I’ve seen them. Guitarist Ru is a technical player, but with a heavy sound and some riffing that would do many metal bands proud. The standard of musicianship and vocal performance is high, as is the quality of the songs. Katie is also a lively and polished performer who really knows what she’s doing. I wasn’t surprised to find that this isn’t her first band - she was previously inThe Bright Lights. The new double fronted vocal attack in Eyelash is very effective, although I don’t think it’s going to happen at every gig. This new version of Eyelash is dynamic and exciting. Marina seems to fit in perfectly too, and seems to be really enjoying playing with this band. Look out for them appearing at the forthcoming Camden Crawl... |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
