Something a bit different tonight, both musically and the venue itself. The venue is the Gypsy Hotel at Bardens Boudoir in glamorous (not) Stoke Newington. The music is supplied by The Bad Breed and has a very 1950's vibe. The Gypsy Hotel club specialises in music and cabaret acts with a sleazy, punk, blues, gypsy, rock 'n' roll vibe - with a particular emphasis on a 1950's feel - so this band fit right in. The band's singer Isobel von Hell is one of life's natural performers and brings a sleazy cabaret vibe. Musically the band have a strong rockabilly vibe and go to great lengths to achieve an authentic 1950's look and sound. All this goes down very well with the club's patrons. This is the band's first appearance at the venue, but is successful enough to get them invited back on the spot to play on New Year's Eve. The Bad Breed provide an entertaining spectacle and a good soundtrack to the evening - I shall certainly be going to see them again. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
