An interesting band at the Dublin Castle tonight - The Dogbones. The lineup is rather unusual - two guitarists, no bass player, and two drummers. Queen Adreena and ex-Daisy Chainsaw guitarist Crispin shares vocal and guitar duties with current Queen Adreena bassist Nomi. The drummers also have an unusual setup - two kits sharing a single bass drum with the drummers playing facing each other. It all seems to work rather well. The music is more grungey than Queen Adreena, but still quite heavy - Crispin also playing some bass parts on his six string. Well it would have been a six string is he hadn't played virtually the whole set with a broken E string! His guitar setup and sound is similar to his other band, although he is using an old Airline guitar instead of the Epiphone Firebirds he favours in Queen Adreena. His twin Fender Amp setup helps him to play both lead and bass parts with one amp set up clean sounding and the other with his trademark dirty heavy and sharply crunching sound. Crispin's performance is quite theatrical and he looks like he is thoroughly enjoying himself away from the pressure and tension of the performances of his other band. It's certainly an interesting show, and worth the trip to Camden to check it out on a dismal Tuesday night in November. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
