Took a drive out to the County Town and one of my favourite venues - Hertford Marquee. Not a great crowd here on this Thursday night - shame as people missed a great performance from a terrific band. I don't think JOANovARC ever put on a bad show though. Tonight isn't one of their best, but it still leaves most other bands looking rather lame. This band are at their best when they have a good crowd to feed off, and tonight they just aren't there. JOANovARC absolutely thrive off audience reaction - and they always get a great reaction even playing to a strange crowd. Yes - they really are that good. It's not just that all three of the girls are great musicians in their own right, but they also have loads of really strong songs. And you can tell when you see them perform that they absolutely love playing them. This band look like they really live for the time they spend on stage playing - and that is part of their secret to winning audiences over. This is something I've never seen them fail to do, but first there needs to be a crowd to play to - and tonight there are only a handful of people there. Some of those are friends of the band - the rest are fans by the time the band finish their 37 minute set. As usual, there are some new songs being aired - this is another of those rare bands who are constantly writing new songs, and making changes to older ones so even if you see them regularly their set always seems fresh. Their next major London show is at The Fly in the West End so I expect there will be a better crowd for the band to bounce off next time I see them... |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
