After some time away recording songs for a new single Dead Monroe are making a return to the London scene with two gigs in Camden this week. They have new songs, new clothes, new guitars - and they mean business! Compared to about a year ago the band have virtually a whole new set. They had easily an album's worth of really strong songs before - including their previous single 'Beep Beep' (from their days as The Bookoo Movement) but they have ditched the whole lot! In place of their previous heavier riff based material they now have a smoother and more commercial sound - mixing catchy pop hooks with a more 1970's glam sound, and also throwing in modern influences like Queens Of The Stone Age. They have really revamped their whole sound as well as their set - not many bands would have to confidence in their new material to completely discard so many great songs. The new stuff if just as good, but different. The tunes are catchy with witty and perceptive lyrics. As ever, their live performances are tight and well rehearsed - with a hint of attitude. It will be interesting to see where this new direction takes them... |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
