Honeykill are continuing to evolve. Richard the other guitarist left recently and the band are now carrying on with just Jimi on guitar. Now Johnny has gone and the band have a new drummer for this gig. He looks normal enough when he's setting up, but when the band start playing - WOW! This guy is like Keith Moon! The band just explode into life now, and are propelled along with a new urgency. I've never heard Honeykill play as hard as this - the band seems transformed - it's amazing what a difference a really good drummer can make. The band's first single 'Burnt By The Sun' has just been released this week and they are really fired up - this combined with their new drummer means the band turn in one of their very best perfomances - at least equalling their terrific show at The Fly earlier this year. Final act of the night are Sam I Am - a new band to me, although the name rings a few bells. They are good, but difficult to categorise. Their style is fairly indie, but much more high-energy than other bands of that genre. The guitar is loud and edgy, while the drums are sharp and tight - the slightly crazed looking bass player looks and plays more like a refugee from a hardcore band. The rather stunning looking singer sounds as good as she looks, and can really sing - unlike the usual shreiking you might expect to accompany this sort of music. The whole mixture fits together really well, although no songs in particular really stood out. Another night of quality music at Lark In The Park - I've never seen a duff band at this venue yet. Shame they ran out of Newcastle Brown during the evening, but they had bottles of locally brewed organic beer which was quite nice instead - and at a decent price too. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
