Two gigs in one night again - fortunately they are only a few stops away from each other on the Northern line. Also fortunately, it's a Tuesday night rather than a weekend - so all the Northern line is actually working. It's my second visit to the Bull & Gate since Saturday, and to my surprise the sound is once again pretty good for a Camden toilet. OK, so it's Kentish Town - but you know what I mean. Honeykill seem to be starting to build a bit of a following and there is a reasonable crowd in the venue - noticably more than for nearly all the other bands I have seen here. The punters who have made the effort to come out early on a cold wet Tuesday night are rewarded with a good sound and a lively band. Honeykill have Nell their stand-in keyboard player again - now noticably less nervous and looking like she's enjoying herself. The band seem more relaxed and confident, and for some reason they seem more animated than usual and look like they are having fun - maybe because it's a fairly local gig for them and there is less presure to perform than usual? Tish even allows herself a smile or two! It's certainly one of those shows which leaves you looking forward to the band's next gig. Unfortunately I don't have time to hang about afterwards as I have to hot-foot it off to Islington... Fortunately the dreaded Northern line is running reliably for once and I make it to Lark In The Park in plenty of time to see Fables Last Stand. The band are in high spirits and proudly show me the latest copy of Classic Rock magazine - featuring them on the cover CD. The northern lads put on a spirited performance - enough to sell some copies of their 'Bite The Hook' single afterwards. The band are barely confined by the small stage of this intimate venue - in fact the stage fails to contain guitarist Twiggy. There aren't a huge amount of people present on this miserable Tueday night, but those present are certainly impressed - indeed the promoter is impressed enough to offer them another spot at this venue next week - something to look forward to for next Thursday. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
