I was planning to go to the 100 Club to see The Inmates and Girls On Top tonight, but the show was cancelled for some reason. It being Friday night I didn't fancy staying in, so I arranged to meet my mate John in the Bell & Buck to check out whatever band they had playing. I arrived to find the pub busier than expected and with some sort of buffet laid out on the pool table - someone's birthday I imagine, hence the place being livelier than usual. The band playing were called Out To Lunch. I hadn't seen them before, although they used to play at the Cat & Lantern down the road. Unfortunately this blues/rock band were a lot less of a wild bunch than their name suggests. They were very average indeed - very much a band just seeming to go through the motions. Boring, not to put too fine a point on it. Surprisingly, a few people were actually dancing some of the time - maybe some of the birthday crowd determined to have a good time? The band's material was pretty predictable and hardly exciting, while their performance was merely competant - people were dancing because they liked the songs rather than because the band were any good. Still, it was a cheap night out for a change - free to get in and reasonably priced beer. Plus a bar open til the small hours and only a short stagger home so it was better than staying in. Just. A bit of an anti-climax after the night in the 100 Club I was looking forward to. Still, after going to gigs five nights in a row last week it's probably good to ease off a little - if only for my wallet's sake. |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
