Another night at the Old King's Head - a place which is starting to become a more regular haunt of mine as they keep booking bands that I want to go and see. It's also a nice rock friendly place. It's also easy (for me) to get to, and handy for the night bus. After my previous moan, ample supplies of Newcastle Brown have been laid in - just as well as the band I'm here to see tonight are a bunch of Newcastle lads. Fables Last Stand seem to be getting better each time I see them - and they were good the first time. This band have a great sound - they are neat players and Roachie is an excellent singer and frontman with a touch of Bon Scott about him. It helps that they have some good tunes too - the songs on the single 'Bite The Hook' and 'Road Religion' stand out, but there is a new really strong one added to the set tonight as well. Fables Last Stand are a cut above nearly all the other bands on the current so called 'sleaze' scene - not only do they walk it like they talk it, but unlike most the other bands on the circuit they actually have the songs to back it up. They don't just look rock 'n' roll - they are rock 'n' roll. They have just been bannned from one of their home venues for life after being caught shagging in the ladies toilets, and they are banned from various other Newcastle venues for fighting - like some sort of Geordie' Towers Of London' - although they might not thank me for saying that! After their show they continued to dance and drink the night away at the Old King's Head (which stays open very late) before walking off down the road looking for more action after the sort of time the clubs would have already thrown everyone onto the street. I heard later that they still managed to get into some trouble trying to obtain more booze elsewhere at about six in the morning... Catch these canny lads soon if you can - before they get locked up or banned from everywhere in London! |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
