I visited the Purple Turtle for the second week in a row, this time to see The Vamps. The turnout was rather poor, although it was a Thursday night. I arrived just as Battlekat were starting their set - they were something else! Sort of punkish with an early Blur sort of guitar style, but a very striking blonde on vocals with amazing stage presence. Drop dead sexy - and she know's it! She reminded me in some ways of Queen Adreena's Katie Jane Garside, although she looks nothing at all like her. This is certainly a band I'll be looking out for again. The Vamps were good, although their set was disappointingly short considering they were headlining - a twenty minute set including a cover gives the (false) impression that they don't have enough decent songs of their own. The cover of Nancy Sinatra's 'Boots' was actually very good, but I don't understand why they left out some excellent songs of their own such as the very catchy 'Eat Me From The Inside'. Vocalist Yvonne looked stunningly elegant as usual, while guitarist Huw belted out some chunky and mean riffs - this is a band which would go down well in front of the right crowd, but tonight in Camden they didn't even get to play in front of the wrong crowd... |
These Blogs mainly deal with the countless gigs I go to, but there is some other stuff in there too - and the odd rant! I've just finished adding over 900 of my old posts from MySpace on here - everything is now on proper chronological order from 2005 to date - there is a LOT to read. Some of the older links may not work anymore - just click on the highlighted text for links to more info.
